Two years ago I made my first run for elected office, falling just 593 votes short out of 196,000 cast. We ran a strong race, but my one regret is letting Congressman Tim Bishop define me with misleading attacks and, in some cases, downright lies.
I won’t make the same mistake twice.
Let’s take a moment to review some of his most egregious smears.
Mr. Bishop claimed I was “from New Jersey,” when the fact is I was born and raised in New York. My wife Cheryl and I live in Smithtown, and Cheryl is a practicing pediatrician. We have since been blessed with two beautiful children, with my daughter Sasha being born at the same hospital where Cheryl works. I am proud to call Long Island my home.
Mr. Bishop said I didn’t know the struggles of middle-class Americans. The truth is that I was raised by a single mother and worked odd jobs to put myself through school, and ultimately built two American companies from the ground up.
Mr. Bishop, on the other hand, has become a millionaire on the taxpayer dime during his time in Congress, yet still allowed a billionaire campaign donor to foot the bill for his two daughters to attend college. In addition, Mr. Bishop has been criticized by ethics watchdogs for funneling more than $500,000 in campaign money to his daughter’s business.
Mr. Bishop even challenged my patriotism and accused me of “outsourcing American jobs to India” – going so far as to run negative ads that included doctored video of me speaking in order to intentionally mislead voters.
The reality is that my first business, OfficeTiger, was an international company based in New York that created more than 750 new American jobs. Many of the jobs that I created overseas in Europe and Asia helped to support American businesses, making them more competitive globally. My new company, CloudBlue, has created more than 350 new American jobs.
Mr. Bishop, on the other hand, has promoted reckless economic and fiscal policies that have resulted in 30,000 more people being unemployed on Long Island today than they were the day that he first took office.
While I expect Mr. Bishop to continue his misleading attacks this time around, he can expect me to more vigorously respond and set the record straight.
As for my platform, I have released a specific 10-point plan to foster job creation, boost small businesses and grow Long Island’s economy. I encourage everyone to read more about it at www.Randy2012.com/jobsplan/
I am running again because as the father of two small children, I am determined to continue the great American tradition of leaving behind a better country for our children than the one our parents left for us, and their parents left for them.
We can accomplish this goal if we are willing to work together and make the tough decisions necessary to restore the opportunity for everyone to achieve the American Dream.
Wait a minute David, I thought you said you would not have a conversation with people who were anonymous? Do you not pay attention to what you write here or maybe that intellect of your s is not quite so sharp as the words you looked up in a thesaurus.
"According to the UN-backed report, the global investment in renewable energy in 2010 was a record $211 billion, up 32% over 2009 and 540% greater than in 2004. The Global Trends in Renewable Energy Investment 2011 report, produced by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management in Germany, and Bloomberg New Energy Finance, also revealed that China accounted for more than 20% of the total increase in 2010. China invested $48.9 billion, up 28% over 2009. According to the report, 2010 was the first year in which developing countries surpassed developed economies in the amount of capital they invested in renewable energy activities. Investment growth in the Middle East and Africa was up 104% to $5 billion dollars. India grew 25% to $3.8 billion dollars. Latin America had an increase of 39%, to $13.1 billion The global surge in investment is due to a number of factors, including national clean energy regulations, government subsidies for cleaner power development, and government stimulus money in the wake of the 2008 financial crash. http://bizmology.hoovers.com/2011/07/21/global-green-energy-investment-hits-a-record-211-billion/
"Cravaack's amendment to the Commerce-Justice-Science spending bill would eliminate $10 million in annual funding made nationwide through the National Science Foundation's Climate Change education program. Cravaack said the money "duplicates the already inherent ability of the [NSF] to fund worthy proposals through its rigorous, peer-reviewed process." He cited Government Accountability Office (GAO) reports showing a range of overlapping programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education that are funded by 13 government agencies. "A redundant global warming program can hardly be justified," he said." http://www.startribune.com/local/150877165.html And this is probably just one such program of Many, under various obscure names, Federal agencies that everyone pays for, but is totally unaware of !
Yet I don't hear you blaming Obama for bailing out the banks. Interesting. A little hypocrisy maybe?
Postman - According US Dept of Labor statistics, when Bush/Cheney left office after 2008, the US economy was UP nearly 1.9 million jobs from 2000... starting with 2009 we're now DOWN nearly 1.5 million jobs as of the end of May. East Hampton - when you can't even spell "decent", why on Earth would you try for a word like "shenanigans"? Nurse Rarchet - If the US economy hit bottom after Bush-Cheney, then where the Hell are we know? Apparently the "bottom" has a sub-basement. Hazel dear.... your tin-foil chapeau is slipping.
I also have not noticed that neither you, nor most others, responded to comments about where Bishop has worked though I did call out "Jean" for her false statements about his work history; your "academia" comments may have been simply tangential but seemed to support her charges. What I have noticed is that Mr. Altschuler has not responded to any questions put forth here on HIS blog. We certainly need someone here with vision to bolster our economy but certainly one who will respond to the people of Long Island and its problems. My fear is the challenger is more interested in representing a political ideal than the constituents.
2 hours ago Yes David, great luck with your business. Folks may differ with views politically, but everyone should be civil and try to be respectful here. All the best, J-G." I mean we should be "civil and try to be respectful" and not be scrupulous, and we should suspend our Intellect.
I hope Randy is paying attention, he can wipe the floor with Bishop is he is.
40 minutes ago Thank you, Patrice. And you are right about the "green' brands most are plant based but still contain artificial fragrances and petro-chemicals, not to mention the packaging waste (we reuse all of our cleaning containers). Your well-wishes are greatly appreciated." Hey David, did you get much business from your appearance here ? Astro turfing is paying off, hey ?
