Angela DeVito Unexpectedly Announces School Board Resignation

School board member says she is glad the past year, which has been difficult, is over.

Tuesday night at Riverhead’s Board of Education meeting, school board member Angela DeVito tendered her resignation.

Ms. DeVito’s resignation, effective June 30, surprised other board members, as her announcement occurred at around 9 p.m. during a tense debate about a prospective $4.5 million bond for athletic facility upgrades in the larger discussion of a $78 million bond.

School Board President Ann Cotten-DeGrasse said on Wednesday that the board would appoint someone to replace DeVito in her absence, who would fill her term until it expires next fall.
