During times when many families are struggling to buy groceries for their family, school supplies can signal financial distress.
To that end, Assemblyman Daniel P. Losquadro, R, C, I, Shoreham, is holding a back-to-school supply drive in Riverhead and other areas to help equip local students with essentials they need to fill their backpacks for the coming school year.
“As many families are currently struggling to pay bills and put food on the table, providing their children with the supplies they need to start the school year will be one less thing for them to worry about,” Assemblyman Losquadro said. “When children know they are heading into school prepared, it allows them to focus on their studies and become better students.”
The initiative has been organized with local parish outreach centers and not-for-profit organizations in Riverhead, Southold, and northeastern Brookhaven Town.
After all the supplies have been gathered, Losquadro and his staff will distribute them to the local outreach centers, who will distribute them to needy families.
Back-to-supplies can be dropped off at Losquadro’s district office, 400 West Main Street, Suite 201, Riverhead; the drive kicked off Monday and will be ongoing thourgh August 31. Donations can be brought any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. For information call (631) 727-0204.
