Blue Waves Fall in Post Season Girls Basketball

Flaming Arrows dominate second and third quarters en route to decisive win over Riverhead.

While the Sachem East Girls basketball ended the season for the Riverhead Blue Waves, the League III champions, with a 63-38 victory at Sachem East on Wednesday night.

The Flaming Arrows earned a spot in the semifinals this coming Saturday.

The win featured solid contributions all around, as Katie Doherty banked 21 points, Kathleen Everson pitched in with 16 points and Emily Carmel clocked 11. Everson led the team with nine rebounds. Other contributions came from Sammy Drake, with eight points and Allie Drake, who scored seven points on the night.

The team outscored Riverhead 20 to 4 in the second quarter and 24 to 10 in the third, allowing the girls to focus on defense for much of the final eight minutes.

Senior Shanice Allen, a five-year varsity player and Riverhead's all-time leading scorer, scored 14 points in her last game as a Blue Wave, according to The Riverhead News-Review

Sachem East will go on to face Walt Whitman at St. Joseph's College on Saturday at 3 p.m. Whitman defeated Bellport last night 57-49.
