Spirits are high at where students have been enjoying a full slate of fun activities all week long and gearing up for Saturday's homecoming events.
"Our high school students are fully immersed in celebrating homecoming week and in planning for Saturday’s parade and game," Nancy Carney, Riverhead Central School District Superintendent said this week. "The spirit throughout the building is one of excitement and pride. We are all looking forward to a terrific day on Saturday."
To kick off the festivities, two pep rallies will be held on Friday, Spirit Day. The first, for freshmen and sophomores, will be held from 12:35 p.m. to 1:15 p.m in the gymnasium; the second, for juniors and seniors, will be held from 1:18 p.m. to 1:59 p.m. in the gym.
Saturday's full day of events begins with the annual Homecoming Parade, which takes place on Saturday. Floats will assemble at the municipal parking lot behind the old Woolworth's building on East Main Street at 11:45 a.m.
The parade down Main Steeet to the football field will begin at 12:30 p.m. sharp. This year's theme for the Homecoming Parade is "Pixar Films," with freshmen representing the film "Brave," sophomores, "Monsters, Inc.," juniors, "Finding Nemo," and seniors, the movie "Up."
The homecoming game, when the Blue Waves will face off against Newfield High School, takes place at 2 p.m.
Spirit week has been filled with events: Tuesday was Neon Day, Wednesday was American Pride Day, and Thursday was Class Color day, with seniors wearing black, juniors, white, sophomores, blue, and freshmen, yellow plaid.
