Main Street was bursting with hometown spirit on Saturday as the community came together to celebrate Riverhead High School students at a Homecoming Parade leading up to the big homecoming game, where the Blue Waves faced off against Newfield High School.
Waving and cheering, residents packed East Main Street as the parade, filled with Riverhead High School students and young cheerleaders and athletes, as well as creative floats designed by the kids, wound its way toward the high school.
"Our high school students are fully immersed in celebrating homecoming week and in planning for Saturday’s parade and game," Nancy Carney,Riverhead Central School District Superintendent said earlier this week. "The spirit throughout the building is one of excitement and pride. We are all looking forward to a terrific day on Saturday."
Saturday's full day of events began with the annual Homecoming Parade. This year's theme for the Homecoming Parade was "Pixar Films," with freshmen representing the film "Brave," sophomores, "Monsters, Inc.," juniors, "Finding Nemo," and seniors, the movie "Up."
Spirit week was filled with events: Tuesday was Neon Day, Wednesday was American Pride Day, and Thursday was Class Color day, with seniors wearing black, juniors, white, sophomores, blue, and freshmen, yellow plaid.
