Students and parents from the Roanoke Avenue Elementary School will grab their blankets and books, ready to stretch out on the field and read on Wednesday night from 6 to 7 p.m. as the school hosts a "Milk and Cookies" night on the blacktop adjacent to the building. If it rains or is too cold, the event will be held inside the school.
The event is part of "Turn Off Your TV Week at Roanoke Avenue," which lasts from April 30 to May 4. A kick off assembly was held on Friday. The week is designed to give students an alternative to watching television and encourage other activities such as reading and family events.
On Thursday, the school hosts an Outdoor Family Fun Night from 6 to 7 p.m. Families are encouraged to participate rather than stay home and watch TV.
Each week we see events come and go in the community. How often have you realized the next day that the event happened the night before -- and you missed it?
With our "Last Chance" feature, don't worry about forgetting events. Just check back in with Riverhead Patch throughout the week and we'll tell you which deadlines are approaching around town.
Do you have an important deadline the community needs to know about? Email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
