Middle School Students Make Cars Fly

Shoreham-Wading Rivers students win levitation contest.

Students from Prodell Middle School recently participated in the 23rd annual Middle School Magnetic Levitation Contest sponsored by Brookhaven National Laboratory.

In preparation for the contest, students in Karen Peterson’s eighth-grade technology classes designed and built their own vehicles, supported and propelled by magnetic fields. To be successful in the BNL contest, the vehicles were required to travel 16 feet on a cushion of air.
