Jalyn Brown signed a letter of intent Friday to accept a full athletic scholarship for the school's basketball team
Riverhead High School senior Jalyn Brown, a three-year All-League and two-year All-County basketball player, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at C.W. Post next year on a full athletic scholarship, according to the school.
Brown, a point guard on the Varsity Girls Basketball team, said she was happy to sign with C.W. Post.
"The coaching staff is great there and I loved the girls I met," she said. "I can really see myself there. I'm both nervous and happy, but mostly I'm relieved. I'm glad it worked out this way. Now, I can really enjoy the season without the stress that was hanging over me about college."
Brown, who also has a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo, starting playing basketball when she was she was 7 years old. She joined the Varsity team in 8th grade. The Varsity team was the League Champion in 2008 and recently won the Peconic Classic Tournament Title.
Her "talent as a ball handler and playmaker" and 14-point-per-game average secured her MVP award Suffolk All-Star Team's at the recent Suffolk vs. Nassau Alzheimer's Benefit game.
Brown is also an accomplished student off the field. She's earned a 90 grade-point-average and is on the High Honor Roll. She plans to major in physical education at C. W. Post to become either a physical education teacher or a physical therapist.
