PHOTOS: NJROTC Cadets Take Field Trip, Win Regional Meet

Forty four Riverhead High School NJROTC cadets took a two-day trip earlier this month down to Penn State, making a couple stops along the way.

Nearly four dozen Riverhead High School NJROTC cadets took a field trip at the beginning of the month to attend a regional drill competition – where they took home first place – and make some pit stops along the way.

The cadets beat out seven other Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine JROTC squads at an April 6 Armed Platoon Drill at Penn State, and shortly thereafter saw how the real pros do it, when a U.S. Army Drill Team from Washington D.C. performed a drill at the event.

Watch their performance at the drill meet in the attached YouTube video.

"This was a rare opportunity to see one of the premiere, professional drill teams in the country perform," states RHS Naval Science Instructor Lt. Col. Peter McCarty, "and the cadets were most impressed with the precision and execution of this highly trained unit. After the performance cadets were able to pose for photos and get autographs from Drill Team Soldiers to commemorate an event they will always remember."

In addition to the drill meet, cadets stopped off at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York City and took a guided tour of Eastern State Penitentiary – "America’s Most Historic Prison" – located in Philadelphia.
