RHS Seniors Honored for Suffolk Zone Award

Tim Clement and Mariah Messina won the prestigious award that honors leadership, academic excellence and physical fitness.

Riverhead High School seniors Tim Clement and Mariah Messina were recognized by the Suffolk County Legislature on Tuesday for winning Suffolk County Zone Awards.

The two first got word on the award - which was granted by the New York Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance - in December.

Clement, of Jamesport, is the president of the student government, and Messina serves as president of the National Honor Society. Both plan to study biology in college, and the two are sixth and fourth, respectively, in their graduating class.

Clement has a weighted average of 106, was named an AP scholar with distinction last fall, and is a three-sport athlete: he's a wide receiver on the football team, forward on the basketball team, and a pitcher on the baseball team.

Messina is a three-sport athlete as well, playing on the volleyball, basketball, and softball teams. She has a weighted average of 105, is a member of the National French Honors Society, as well as the Women in Science and Engineering program.
