Riverhead Athletes Take Home Award for Academic Excellence
Eight out of nine of the district's fall teams earned the honor.
They not only score on the playing field, but they soar academically, too.
At the end of every sports season, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association honors teams that also score big in the classroom. Teams with a combined GPA of 90 are eligible for the award.
The Riverhead Central School District had a winning round of varsity teams that took home the 2013 NYSPHSAA scholar/athlete team award.
Those teams included Riverhead girl's cross country; Riverhead girls tennis; Riverhead girls volleyball; Riverhead girls soccer; Riverhead boys golf; Riverhead boys cross country; Riverhead girls field hockey; and Riverhead football.
Eight of the district's nine fall varsity programs earned the accomplishment.
