Riverhead NJROTC Completes Annual Review

Third year in a row drill team qualifies for Northeast Championship Meet.

The Riverhead Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps completed its annual review last week, as the the NJROTC prepares for its drill team to compete in the Northeast Championship Meet in May. 

The review consisted of demonstrations by three of the drill team units: the NS-1 Squad, led by Cadet JaWaun Kenerich; the Unarmed Team, led by Ensign Matthew Mulvaney; and the Armed Team, led by Ensign Amanda Gallo.

Unit Commanding Officer Corrine Matlak was awarded the "Exemplary Personal Appearance Ribbon," while the following cadets received "Exemplary Personal Appearance Awards:" Tristan Seuling, Robyn Schneider, Robert Prentiss, JaWaun Kenreich, Dallas Cardone, Patrick Kruszon, Rachel Blackmore, Thomas Kopp, and Adam Bugdin.

“Riverhead's NJROTC Unit started as a satellite of the Southold NJROTC Unit 37 years ago in 1974," explained Riverhead's commander, Lt. Col. Peter McCarthy, who greeted the audience. “The cadets have already accomplished quite a bit this year."
