Riverhead NJROTC Wins William Floyd Competition

Second win in as many meets, as the Riverhead NJROTC prepares for next competition in North Rockland, N.Y.

Following a in December, Riverhead's Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps took home first place again on Saturday in a meet hosted at William Floyd High School.

Saturday's competition featured nine teams ranging from Connecticut to Delaware.

Lt. Col. Tom McCarthy complimented his team for doing "an outstanding job," noting that many of them were competing for the first time.

Riverhead NJROTC took home the following trophies: 

  • 1st Place Armed Platoon led by Harold Hubbard
  • 1st Place Varsity Color Guard led by Alison Miller
  • 1st Place NS-1 Color Guard led by Aleki Lui - Cadet 'Aleki Lui was honored as the first-year NJROTC student with the highest academic achievement out of the eight other schools that participated.
  • 1st Place NS-1 Academic Team led by Ashlyn Whyard
  • 2nd Place Unarmed Platoon led by Tom Kopp
  • 2rd  Place Varsity Inspection led by Leanne Weber
  • 3rd Place NS-1 Inspection led by John Roca
  • 3rd Place NS-1 Squad led by Abigail Wehunt
  • Tug of War – 2nd Place led by Brian Weinhardt
  • Overall 1st place

The Riverhead NJROTC will go on to compete in North Rockland, N.Y. - where they placed second last year - on March 24, followed by an Area Four meet on May 12 in Middletown, N.Y.

The group's annual Chinese Auction - its buggest fundraiser - will be held on April 21.
