Riverhead Schools Re-Open On Thursday

Superintendent Nancy Carney made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.

Schoolkids basking in a second day off from classes -- on Halloween, no less -- will be heading back to their normal routines on Thursday.

Riverhead Central School District Nancy Carney announced Wednesday afternoon that all schools in the district will be open for business on Thursday.

Carney announced over the weekend that classes would be canceled for two days due to Hurricane Sandy; Riverhead High School was used as an emergency shelter for those seeking safety from Hurricane Sandy.

Originally, it was thought classes might resume Wednesday, but Carney said loss of power at some of the schools in Riverhead meants students would need to wait another day before heading back.
