Riverhead Softball Star Signs To Play At Mercy College

Riverhead High School senior Amanda Graziano signed with Mercy College to play both softball and field hockey.

Riverhead High School senior Amanda Graziano will continue to wow spectators with her athletic prowess as she heads off to college.

Amanda signed to play softball in college next year at Mercy College, a Division II College in Dobbs Ferry -- and it's not the only signing the young athlete has had this year. She also signed to play field hockey at Mercy earlier this spring.

Both Amanda and her parents were thrilled that she received two athletic scholarships and an academic scholarship.

"When I went to the campus, I fell in love with the school," said Graziano. "It's right on the Hudson River, so it's really beautiful. I fell in love with both teams and the coaches and the fact that I could play both sports was really attractive to me."

Riverhead High School's softball team made the playoffs this year.

Amanda said she has high hopes for the team's first playoff game. "Three years ago we got to the playoffs, but lost the first game. This year, I really want to win that first game. I also want to pitch one more strikeout, so I can reach 100 strikeouts."

Riverhead won their last regular game against Deer Park, and Amanda struck out seven in the Deer Park game, which brings her to 99 strikeouts. She gets a chance in the playoffs to go over her 100 strikeout goal for the year.
