Whiz Kids: Riverhead, Mercy Students Earn Teeny Awards Nominations

East End awards ceremony, encompassing 15 high schools, set for June 5 in Westhampton Beach.

Students from both Riverhead and McGann-Mercy high schools were recently nominated for the annual Teeny Awards, an award ceremony dedicated to high school stage performances on the East End.

Judges attended theatrical productions from 15 schools across the East End, judging the performances on a wide variety of skills, including movement, stage presence, singing, and choreography. 

This year's awards ceremony will be held at Westhampton Beach High School on June 5. Tickets can be purchased at the East End Arts Council's website or at their location on East Main Street. Admission is $20, $15 for students.

Riverhead High School students received the following nominations: 

  • Amanda Gallo - Outstanding Performance in a Musical (Once Upon a Mattress)
  • Stephen Peppaceno - Supporting Actor in a Musical (Once Upon a Mattress)
  • Jonathan Troiano - Supporting Actor in a Musical (Once Upon a Mattress)
  • Jennifer Bliss – Stage Manager (Stage Door)
  • Chelsea Chizever, Justin Harris, Shauna Huizing, and Amanda Kozakiewicz – Choreography (Once Upon a Mattress)

Students from McGann-Mercy High School were nominated for the following:
