Whiz Kids Video: Pulaski Street School Hosts Science Fair

Fifth and sixth graders show off understanding of scientific method, demonstration of scientific subjects.

Pulaski Street School held its annual science fair on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 8:00, as hundreds of projects demonstrated topics ranging from shooting basketballs to texting while driving. 

Principal Dave Densieski said he was very impressed with the projectsthe fifth and sixth graders submitted, saying, "We've noticed that this year's projects across the board are of higher quality, so we're really, really excited."

Winners were chosen in both grades in two categories: demonstration and scientific method.

Sixth grade science teacher Don Frobey, who helped organize the fair this year, said that the winners from each grade in each category will go on to showcase their projects at a regional fair at Brookhaven National Lab.

6th grade winners:

  • Demonstration:
    • 1st place: Endi Figueroa - Water purification
    • 2nd place: Maria Christina Lydic - Vegetable dye makes the color of fabric
  • Scientific Method:
    • 1st place: Cole Sueling - Don't paint the psych ward red!
    • 2nd place: Zachary Bozuhoski - The power of citrus
    • 3rd place: Peter Panciocco - It's what UV don't see that can hurt you

5th grade winners:

  • Demonstration: 
    • 1st place: Ryan Zukowski - How an engine works
    • 2nd place: Mayra Alavarado - Car motor
  • Scientific method: 
    • 1st place: Luke Zukoski - Texting while driving
    • 2nd place: Kenny Rothwell - Why WIFI
    • 3rd place: Tim Dominici - Battery Efficiency
