Maysonet Leads Seawolves in 41-21 Win Over Charleston Southern

Former Blue Wave keeps up the pace, scores four times in victory; named Big South Offensive Player of the Week for second straight week.

After piling on 193 yards and three scores last weekend against Coastal Carolina, running back Miguel Maysonet one-upped his stellar performance with another one for the books on Saturday. En route to a 41-21 win over Charleston Southern, Maysonet tied a school record with four touchdowns and accounted for 195 yards on offense.

Maysonet currently leads the Big South Conference in rushing, averaging 110 yards per game. He's scored a team-high nine touchdowns and has carried the ball 127 times for 877 yards. For the second week in a row, he was named Big South Offensive Player of the Week.

Despite back-to-back offenseive performances many backs would crave to mirror just once, the former Blue Wave promptly shared the credit with wide receiver Matt Brevi.

"I want to give the credit to Matt Brevi," said Maysonet, a 2008 Riverhead High School graduate. "He did a great job blocking the corner every single time."

The Seawolves (4-4, 3-0) scored 34 unanswered points against Charleston Southern (2-6, 0-4). But it didn't look at first like the game was certain to go that way. Stony Brook fell behind early on, missed a field goal attempt, got its next field goal attempt blocked, and missed an extra point before Maysonet and Brock Jackolski turned the offense on.

Down 7-0 in the second, Maysonet put a score on the board with a 32-yard rushing touchdown to get the Seawolves going. A few minutes later, Jackolski's 55-yard run set up Maysonet's eight-yard touchdown run for a 13-7 lead going into halftime.

Stony Brook scored on its next three drives before Charleston Southern was able to get another touchdown. And when quarterback Michael Coulter connected with Jordan Gush for a 25-yard touchdown reception just over a minute into the fourth quarter, the Seawolves had a 41-14 lead.

"Games are won and lost by adversity," head coach Chuck Priore said. "Our players are a little more confident. When you come out winning the first quarter and third quarter, you can win football games."

Jackolski finished with 183 yards rushing as the Seawolves totaled a season-high 499 yards of offense. Coulter finished with 145 yards on 9-11 passing.

Next up for Stony Brook is a trip to Presbyterian for a 1 p.m. game on Nov. 6.

"I feel that Presbyterian's getting better and better every week," Priore said. "We'll have our work cut out for us on the road. We have to study them and put a good game-plan together."
