Maysonet Signed to Jets Practice Squad

Would you like to see Miguel Maysonet playing with the Jets?

Former Blue Waves start Miguel Maysonet continues to make his hometown proud.

On Tuesday morning, Maysonet was signed for the Jets practice squad.

According Adam Gutes of Stony Brook University, Maysonet is one of an eight-member group.

Maysonet will practice with the team but is not eligible, currently, to active play on Sundays.

NFL rosters consist of 53 active players, and 45 are designated to play on Sundays, but not the eight on the practice squad.

"At any time he's eligible to be signed by any team in the league," Gutes said. "The Jets also have the opportunity to add him to the active roster."

Gutes added, "The NFL is a business.  At any time, you can be cut. Teams want the best players available."

Maysonet, a Riverhead product who helped propel Stony Brook's football program into the spotlight over the past three seasons since his transfer from Hofstra, was also signed to the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad in Sept.

The NBC Sports blog Pro Football Talk reported that Maysonet's signing came six days after a workout with the team.

Maysonet, who graduated from Stony Brook in 2013, is an undrafted free agent who spent time with the Eagles and Browns in the preseason before landing with the Colts. NBC Sports reports that he was the only running back on the team's practice squad.
