Miguel Maysonet Signed By Pittsburgh Steelers

The Blue Waves star continues to remain in the spotlight.

Former Blue Waves start Miguel Maysonet continues to make his hometown proud.

On Monday, according to Newsday, Maysonet was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers to a "future/reserve contract," the seventh he's signed with a number of different teams.

In October, Maysonet signed with the Jets practice squad.

Maysonet, a Riverhead product who helped propel Stony Brook's football program into the spotlight since his transfer from Hofstra, was also signed to the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad in Sept.

Maysonet, who graduated from Stony Brook in 2013, is an undrafted free agent who spent time with the Eagles and Browns in the preseason before landing with the Colts. NBC Sports reports that he was the only running back on the team's practice squad.

He has also spent time with the Washington Redskins and and the Chargers, according to Newsday.

The 2014 NFL league season does not begin until March 12. Players signed between now and then are signed to 'reserve/futures' deals because they are being signed for a season that has not officially begun.

Only players who were not on any NFL team’s active roster when the previous season ended are eligible for such contracts. If they were under contract, then they would remain so until the league’s new year started. Players who were on practice squads or prospective players who were out of football entirely at the end of a season can be signed to these contracts. True free agency does not begin until the league opens for business.
