Report: Tomcats End 6-Game Slide In Unusual Way

The Riverhead Tomcats beat the Sag Harbor Whalers 5-4 on Tuesday after scoring the winning run on a Hit By Pitch.

With the scored tied at 4 and the bases loaded with two outs on Tuesday evening, Riverhead Tomcats top hitter Frank Schwindel went up to the plate. Would he crush a shot into the outfield to end Riverhead's 6-game losing streak?

Not exactly. Schwindel was hit by a pitch in the arm, allowing Jamie Wollerman to walk home with the eventual winning run.

"I'll take it," said Schwindel with a grin. "I'm hoping this is a momentum changer that we make a late run to make the [Hamptons Collegiate Baseball] playoffs."

Two shutout innings by reliever Brett Schreiber helped secure the Tomcats' first win in over a week. The teams sit at the bottom of the five-team HCB standings with a record of 11-18 after their loss last night to the Westhampton Aviators.
