Study: 2012 Hottest Half-Year on Record, Can You Tell?

It's been a hot one, for sure. Have you noticed, and what has the heat meant for you locally?

So far 2012 has been the warmest half of year on record, according a new study by the NOAA National Climatic Data Center, which might come as no surprise to locals who've had to deal with 90-plus temperatures on a regular basis this summer.

According to the study, the past 12 months have had an average temperature of 56 degrees, which is 3.2 degrees higher than normal, Huffington Post reported.

From Huffington Post:

For a large portion of the contiguous U.S., these first six months were also drier than average. The U.S. Drought Monitor showed that as of July 3, 56 percent of the contiguous U.S. is experiencing drought conditions. In June, wildfires burned over 1.3 million acres, the second most on record for the month.

As for that brutally hot June? More than 170 all-time warm temperature records were broken or tied last month.

Locally, we've seen people rushing and public pools to fight the prolonged heat, but we wonder if locals agree that this summer seems hotter than normal. Does it, and how has that affected you locally? Let us know in the comments.

The planet warms and cools. A century is a blink of an eye. Deserts become lush gardens and then desolate again and the cycle repeats for millenia. As far as throwing Rebub. and going nuts over fossil fuel - that is an obvious beef of yours. I don't care what party you belong to, why do you care so much about mine ? Lastly, propaganda is fed equally by both sides my dear, and temperature records have only been kept a short time. You are throwing propaganda around by saying it is the "big oil conspiracy" to destroy the planet. Oh, you forgot to leave out "those evil bastard Koch Brothers" - point 5 of your Lib. "Play book".

To Mary Beth and other global warming or is it climate change theorists. Did you stop driving your fossil fuel consuming autos? Did you disconnect your air conditioner and all appliances that use fossil fuel? I am still waiting for the ice age that was predicted in the 70's due to pollution.

Which are you powering your computer with: a windmill or with solar panels? Big changes start with individuals setting an example through practical application of idealistic principles, not waiting for some sea-change. "Think Globally, act Locally"? It doesn't get more local than your own roof-top.
