Suffolk County Historical Society

Since its founding in 1886 by a group of forward-thinking county residents, the mission of the Suffolk County Historical Society has remained essentially the same: to collect, preserve, and interpret the ongoing history of Suffolk County, NY, and its people. To fulfill these purposes the Society operates a history museum including permanent and featured exhibitions, maintains an extensive local history library and archives, and offers a variety of educational programs and events. The SCHS’s ever-growing collection of historical artifacts reflects more than three centuries of Long Island history.
