Riverhead High School Principal Promoted to Assistant Superintendent

Also on the agenda are a new high school principal and assistant principal.

When school starts again in the fall, Riverhead High School Principal David Wicks will have a new title on his office door.

Wicks has been named the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Riverhead Central School District.

In addition, the new Riverhead High School principal will be former Assistant Principal Charles Regan.

Sean O'Hara, formerly the K-12 music and fine arts director, will become an Assistant Principal. O'Hara will also continue with his much-applauded work in the fine arts within the district.

In his new position, Wicks will assist Superintendent Nancy Carney by "providing leadership and vision in the ongoing establishment of goals, planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of curriculum and instructional programs in the district," according to the district.

He will also coordinate and direct the work of administrative and teaching staff throughout the district.

The assistant superintendent is also responsible for state and local assessments, academic intervention services, English as a Second Language and the district's Response to Intervention program.

Wicks will also be responsible for providing professional development opportunities for professional teaching staff and others through workshops and conferences.

Wicks began his work with the Riverhead district in July, 2007 as an Associate Principal and served from April, 2011 to June, 2013 as Riverhead High School principal.

He began his career as a physics teacher with a BS in physics and secondary education from SUNY Brockport, and received an MS in education from Dowling College, as well as his public school administration certification from The College of Saint Rose.
