  • A Northampton man claims he was the victim of an identity theft scheme that began back in early October. On Nov. 12, the victim reported fraudulent charges he was getting billed for by the online credit company Bill Me Later. According to the complaint, the man received a letter back on Oct. 5 from Bill Me Later denying his request for a line of credit. The victim told the company representative that he applied for no such line of credit and that the attempt was fraudulent. Then, on Nov. 1, he received a phone call from the security division of Bill Me Later informing him that an account was opened in his name and a charge of $298 was applied to the account. Once again the victim said he didn't make any such charges. On Nov. 12, the victim received a bill from Bill Me Later in the amount of $586.85. The victim contacted the company once again and finally got the company to put a freeze on the account. He contacted police to report the fraud.
