Police Stage Controlled Explosion of Possible Grenade On Riverleigh Avenue

Road was initially closed but is now open, police said.

Southampton Town police confirmed that an investigation is ongoing regarding what could be a grenade, found on Riverleigh Avenue in Riverside.

Police said a code red alert went out earlier this afternoon to advise residents of a controlled detonation, and there was no need for concern.

Police said the call came in about the alleged grenade at approximately 2 p.m. The Suffolk County Bomb Squad is investigating, police said.

While Riverleigh Avenue was initially closed for the investigation, police said the road is now open.
