#94 - Take a Walk in the Park at Stotzky

Time to get out and enjoy the approaching spring weather.

As the weather starts to get warmer, and folks are starting to get outdoors for fresh air and exercise, one of the largest park areas in Riverhead town is Stotzky Memorial Park. It is located on the western end of Pulaski Street, with one large parking lot on Columbus Street.

Stotzky Park is one of the largest parks in Riverhead. It is a 12-acre park that includes several baseball fields, little league fields, tennis courts, handball courts, a soccer field and a fitness trail that circles and runs through the entire park with multiple levels of challenging activities at different stations based on individual physical ability.

The park also has a beautiful enclosed playground covered with wood chips for safety for the young ones. It even includes a sunflower sprinkler system for warmer days. The playground is always well-maintained and provides views of the little league games for parents with younger tots who get bored easily. The playground is a great place for toddlers to the “older” kids and also has plenty of seating for caretakers to overlook the children. On quiter days, a skooter or bicycle could be brought to ride the trails, however when softball is in full season, it may be too crowded. Dogs, however, are not permitted in the park.

Also inside Stotsky Park is the Riverhead Skate Park. The Skate Park is a place for not only skateboarders but Rollerblade and BMX riders as well. Memberships are available for the skate park or pay for individual sessions only if you are not a resident. Residents can use the Skate Park for free.

Entry into Stotzky Park in is also free and there is ample parking along with three bathrooms. Be warned, in the early spring season, the bathrooms are not always open. When the skate park is open, the bathrooms are as well. The park in general seems to be rather clean and as dusk approaches is always well lit.
