First Major Storm of 2011 Hits Riverhead
Second major storm this winter buries town again.
As of 6 a.m. at least 9 inches of snow covered Riverhead with predictions of 6-10 more possible. By noon, the wind and snow were still blowing making total accumulations difficult to calculate. Driving on the main roads and even some secondary roads was not terrible, although it seemed many developments had yet to be plowed out. By 2:30 blue skies were visible and it seemed the storm was finally over. During the storm, residents were out with snow blowers and all across town people were walking around with snow shovels looking to make a few extra dollars by clearing sidewalks, driveways and cars.
